Yamagiwa Stem Ray
Japan based lighting design company Yamagiwa has historically collaborated extensively with leading international architects and designers to produce innovative light fittings. They invited Sebastian and Studio Conran to work with them. The concept was to develop a rechargeable bedside/desk-light, utilising a slim flexible neck with LED light source, allowing light to be focused in any direction. The battery unit is housed in a die-cast tripod base, whose form was inspired by concrete Japanese sea defences.
The acclaimed result was awarded a Red Dot and has been a great commercial success. Oslo's library alone ordered 100 for their reading room!
