Standing out in a crowded and conservative market

Villeroy & Boch wanted an offer that delivered significant market impact & differentiation from other brands general trends of the time. The 1990s market in designer sanitaryware had been following a rather architectural trend, of simple geometry, and the brief required a striking range that would stand out as different, and lead rather than follow trends.

Working closely with the Villeroy & Boch and Dornbracht technical teams and taking inspiration from the sculptures of Brancusi and Kapoor, the Conran concept was developed to produce ceramics with pure, asymmetric ovoid forms, contrasted with defined edges.

Simple installation and Buoyant sales

A particular stand out design in the range was the oval pebble-like spa-bath. With the innovative integration of a spa pump & aerator within the void between the outer wall and tub, this radically simplified installation.

The resulting Aveo range was critically acclaimed within the industry and received both the IF Product Design Award and Red Dot Design Award in 2003. This has resulted in excellent on-going sales and has spawned many imitations.
