Aerofoil Furniture
Designed for digital living in the home, the furniture integrates with electronic equipment, neatly dealing with cables and plugboards in integrated conduits whilst maintaining a soft and domestic aesthetic with natural wood finishes. The range had innovative features such as cable management channels, extending keyboard drawers, television mounting points and adaptable surfaces such as the Radius Table’s tilt mechanism which allows it to pivot into the perfect positions for writing, typing or sketching.

2011 saw the evolution of our work for John Lewis into the foundation our own in house brand Universal Expert. The first range to come under the UE moniker was a collection of kitchen electricals, each with clean styling and functional innovation designed into each one, from how they pack away, smart way to interact and their range of abilities in the kitchen.

ICON
When aero-engine specialists acquired the nose cone rescued from the iconic Concorde prototype they contacted Sebastian as he had worked on the design of the BA Concorde’s passenger experience and interior design. From the resulting conversations came a plan to create a piece of sculpture repurposing the Concorde nose that would celebrate the intersection of art and technology.

Oven & Hob Range
A fully-featured range of built-in ovens, gas and ceramic induction hobs and cooker hoods perform to highly modern standards, but with a timeless look and feel. With a design language influenced by aircraft controls and wood-burning stoves, characterful domestic-friendly choice of colours and tactile elements such as cast knobs and analogue clock face, the collection looks at home in any modern kitchen whilst resonating the classic values of the Belling brand.

Wearable Companion
The Buddi System was developed to bring independence to the older and less-independent as well as increasing peace of mind to those who care for them. SCA developed a clip, wristband and dock that fully incorporate the GPS, cellular and fall-detecting technology as well as helping evolve the user interaction experience of the buddi system to create a product that better delivers on those promises practically whilst visually becoming less inhibiting and more discreet.

HSS Cycle Helmet
SCA has partnered with the world-leading development team at Sheffield University in producing the world’s first tailored, advanced 3D printed (High-Speed Sintering) cycle helmet. Individual head scans are fitted into the helmet and an innovative hexagonal cell structure provides a stiff, structure which is designed to crumple and deform even at low speeds where conventional cycle helmets lack protection. The cells provide unprecedented airflow to the head whilst ensuring that the helmet is light and comfortable to wear.

Project Title
Tilt Training Cycle
The Muoverti tilt is an interactive exercise and training bike. We worked with Muoverti to develop a training bike that is fully interactive and controllable via a mobile app.
It has a unique pivoting system which allows the bike to move from side to side like a real bike, and a dynamic resistance mechanism which emulates the sense of inertia a user experiences when cycling.

Warehousing Robot
Collaborating with international robotics manufacturer Tharsus to enhance the visual personality of Ocado’s Smart Platform. SCA worked to make the robots look less industrial and safer as well as implementing colour coded identification to help differentiate them from one another.

MIRO is a biomimetic companion robot with an advanced brain to learn from its surroundings and can develop a unique personality. It will make decisions, display emotions and respond to others in a truly unique and autonomous way.

Project Title
Omniseat
SCA teamed up with digital entrepreneur Ali Athar to develop what will be the ultimate in powered wheelchairs. The aspirational omnidirectional design is ultra-manoeuvrable in the home and seat-height adjustable to allow users to pick a fork off the floor, cook a meal, or put a cookbook on a high shelf. It empowers users, looks terrific and is reasonably priced.

The Gifu Collection
The Sebastian Conran Gifu Collection consists of over 150 designs and celebrates a rich and diverse craft heritage that dates back 1,300 years. It is the result of a three-year collaboration with 16 traditional makers based in the beautiful, natural surroundings of Gifu, Japan. The collection spans across lighting, furniture, ceramics, stationery and kitchen tools, all crafted using the diverse skills and exceptional techniques of the Gifu region.
